ARTIST BIO

A Visual Journey

Diggin Art. A journey of colour , line and form.

Alan Diggin's interest in abstract painting was initially developed under artist Howard Taylor while Alan was studying architecture at the Western Australian Institute of Technology in the early 70's.

Alan has undertaken studies at TAFE and the Claremont School of Art and has worked with artist David Giles in David's Freedom Art School.

He has worked in architecture, town planning and urban design over the last 4 decades and this experience has strongly influenced his obsession with painting abstract views of the landscape (both built and natural).

Diggin,s bold vibrant paintings are profoundly mystical and spiritual compositions of colour line and space.

Alan creates intense personal moments, masterfully created by means of rules and omissions, acceptance and refusal, luring the viewer around and round in circles. The results are deconstructed to the extent that meaning shifts and possible interpretations become multifaceted.

His compositions result from his response to the works by solving painting puzzles rather than him having any preconceived or planned outcome for any painting.

Each new work is built upon something learned from past projects.

Alan Diggin has participated in 18 group shows and held one solo exhibition. His works are featured at the Rockingham Regional Hospital and in numerous private collections.

He has also been a major contributor towards ArtSource WA's model Public Art Contribution Policy for Local Government.
